The New Year, which started a few days ago, began particularly impressively for Costa Nostrum, since with the beginning of 2024, an extremely important European Project HORIZON – “PRO-COAST”, also begins, in which Costa Nostrum participates as one of the main partners of the project.
Within the framework of this specific project, Costa Nostrum will, among other things, certify beaches as Costa Nostrum – Sustainable Beaches, in nine (9) countries of the European Union.
The vision of PRO-COAST is to stimulate and empower local communities and civil society in general, to support the restoration and maintenance of biodiversity and ecosystem services across Europe, and thus to involve them more actively in environmental governance. To achieve this, PRO-COAST will gather and synthesize knowledge to contribute to informed citizen decisions and improve co-participation in community decision-making, while integrating local knowledge into policymaking. The project assumes a holistic approach that combines the inherent worth and importance of biodiversity and ecosystem services, emphasizing noting their inherent rights and existence independent of human utility, and the tangible benefits people can derive, such as increased livelihood opportunities and improved quality of life.

In addition, we are particularly proud of the past year, since 2023 closed with some particularly noteworthy distinctions for Costa Nostrum, the main one being our distinction as one of the 5 best companies worldwide by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in the category “Innovation and digitization for island destinations”. In addition, we have included in two (2) particularly important European Projects, while we were speakers at the Forum of the 1st International Circular Economy Exhibition “Forward Green Expo”.

Costa Nostrum was selected as one of the three organizations, following a proposal by the HELLENIC CENTRE FOR MARINE RESEARCH (HCMR) - Department of Oceanography and the General Secretariat for Research and Technology, that will represent Greece and participate in the European Union’s Mission Ocean & Waters program.
