MEDITERRANEAN BEACHES

OUR BEACHES

CATEGORIZATION OF BEACHES

Mediterranean beaches can be divided into three major categories.

Organized Beaches: Are those which possess suitable material, technical infrastructure to service the needs of visitors – beachgoers (with the essential prerequisite that there exist a life-guard throughout the summer period).

Non-Organized Beaches: Are the beaches which may or may not possess suitable material or technical infrastructure to service the needs of visitors – beachgoers despite being able to do so, given that the beach is not a sanctuary for endangered – protected species, as for example turtles. Regardless of whether beaches possess suitable material or technical infrastructure, the absence of a life-guard during the summer months renders them Non-Organized Beaches.

Beaches of an Ecological Nature: Are the beaches on which there is no material or technical infrastructure to service the needs of visitors – beachgoers, nor is there the possibility of installation of such equipment (rubbish bins and signs informing the public are not included in this category), since these beaches are considered ecologically sensitive systems which provide sanctuary to protected species or threatened species such as turtles.
